2006 Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition Opens at University of Tennessee

0,0001248 The 2006 Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition has begun at the Roland Hayes Theater on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Round 1 takes place on Sunday, August 27 and Monday, August 28. Round 2 will take place on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30. Round 3 will take place on Thursday, August 31, and the final Round 4 concert on Friday, September 1 at the magnificent Tivoli Theater in downtown Chattanooga.

The 2006 Competitors are: Ivan Arboleya-Montes (Spain); Oscar Bustillo (USA); Ruben Felipe Capriles (Venezuela); James Feddeck (USA); Robert Franz (USA); Erin Freeman (USA); Christian Hoerbov-Meier (Denmark); Dong-Hyun Kim (USA/Korea); Boguslaw Kobierski (Finland/Poland); Andrew Koehler (USA); Douglas Kovanda (USA); Maksim Kuzin (Ukraine); Juyong Kwon (Korea); David Long (U.S.); Sasha Makila (Finland); Georgios Moutsiaras (Netherlands/Greece); Yukihiro Notsu (Finland/Japan); Viswa Subbaraman (USA); Alfredo Sorichetti (Italy); Larry Strachan (Canada); John Traill (UK); Matthew Thomas Troy (USA); Tyler G White (USA); and Max Xin Yu (Australia).

The 2006 jury includes: Jooyong Ahn (Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA); Leslie B. Dunner (Chicago, Illinois); Giorgi Jordania (Tbilisi, Georgia); Dr Mark Malkovich (Newport, Rhode Island, USA); and Jonathan Sternberg (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA).

Performers in the Jordania Competition Orchestra are the finest professional musicians within the Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia area. These musicians are the principal components of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (AL), the Atlanta Symphony (GA) Orchestra, and the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Orchestra (TN), as well as the Calgary Philharmonic of Canada. Mark Reneau, concertmaster of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra is serving as concertmaster of the Jordania Competition Orchestra. The majority of these musicians have played under the baton of Vakhtang Jordania and are dedicated to preserving his memory.

The Jordania International Conducting Competition is open to conductors from around the world wishing to enhance their careers through international competition, expand their network of global contacts and have a wonderful experience working with the musicians of the Jordania Competition Orchestra. The Competition also offers Master Classes, professional development seminars and many opportunities for one-on-one contact and individual guidance from their distinguished international panel of judges.
